Bosch GCM800SJ - What's the Features and Spec?

Let's be clear, there are sliding mitre saws available that have more features than the GCM800SJ. But this new saw from Bosch isn't about stacking up loads of spec that aren't needed by all users. Instead, they've put together a saw that'll give you mitre and bevel cuts at very respectable capacities.

For example, with the blade in its upright position you'll be cutting a depth of 70mm. And because of the smooth slide rails you'll be able to cut pieces of wood up to 270mm wide, which is very respectable.

The GCM800 SJ is a single bevel saw, and at the maximum 45 bevel you'll get a 45mm cut depth up to 180mm wide. These cutting capacities, via the 1400W motor, make it especially suitable for flooring applications, cutting skirting boards or stud partition batons.

Clamping your workpiece in place is easy thanks to the fitted clamp to the left of the blade. And at the front of the saw, underneath the mitre adjustment arm, is a foot. Once this has been lowered into position it helps stabilise the saw for when you're using it on a flat surface (ie. not fitted to a leg stand), preventing it tipping forward when you plunge the blade down.

Bosch GCM800SJ Sliding Mitre SawThe motor outputs 5,500rpm and benefits from a soft start function, limiting the current when you start the cut and protecting the brushes into the bargain.

And it only weighs 13.5kg, meaning it's very manageable for anyone working in a loft or attic, for example.

All the common mitre angles are etched  (45 / 22.5 /15 / 0 / 15 / 22.5 / 45) onto the base plate and these are indented making them quick and easy to select. The blade fitted to the saw is a 24 tooth, and the blade guard features an intuitive lock out button, making it perfect for right or left handed operation.
