Bosch GST160 jigsawCorded jigsaws should offer you plenty of power, lots of cutting depth, but as the technology in the motors improves, they should be getting smaller and easier to handle.

And as you'd expect from the company that invented the jigsaw, Bosch has two in their blue professional corded range that meet all of the above.

The jigsaws share the same model number: Bosch GST160, click here to see them both, including our best price.

Watch Bosch's Eric expertly take us through all the features and benefits of these two new jigsaws on Toolstop TV, click here, or watch in the player below.

In this guide we'll cover the spec of both jigsaws (which is identical), however there's one key difference to consider from the outset.

The Bosch GST160 BCE has a bow handle, whereas the Bosch GST 160 CE features a slim barrel - or body - grip.

Why Buy a Body Grip Jigsaw?

Bosch GST 160 CE Professional Jigsaw

The key benefit of a body grip jigsaw is when you're making scroll cuts or inverted. The body grip design typically offers you greater fine control over the saw while it cuts through the material. And easily making inverted cuts is a huge advantage when cutting material that's "sensitive" as an inverted cut will give you a cleaner finish.

What Are the Benefits of Bosch's GST160 Jigsaws?

Bosch love to add lots of great little features into their professional power tools, and these GST160 jigsaws are no exception.

As you'd expect, pendulum action is included, offering you 4 stages. And next to the pendulum (or orbital) action selector is a switch that when flicked on will blow air from the motor down onto your cutting line, handily clearly detrius from the jigsaws path while you cut.

Tool-free blade change is a great benefit on any jigsaw and Bosch has it on the GST160 saws. But in addition to the ability to simply slot in the blade without using an allen key, Bosch has engineered the jigsaws with "high-precision saw blade guidance" via double rollers which grip the blade, reducing blade movement whil you cut.

Perfect for high-precision cuts, even in hard materials.

Once you've finished the cut and want to change blades, pull the red lever at the front of the jigsaw and the blade ejects. No more burnt fingers from hot jigsaw blades.

Bosch's professional power tools are always blue, but if the tool has any red buttons or levers, this is something you can adjust.

On the GST160 saws the variable speed trigger is, obviously red. This will give you fingertip control over the speed outputting from the 800w motor to the cutting blade, from 800 to 3000 strokes per minute. The stroke length is a respectable 26mm, so you'll be able to cut up to 160mm into wood and 20mm into aluminium.

The speed of the blade can also be set using the red dial at the back of the saw, and the Constant Electronics in the motor (think of cruise control in your car) will maintain that speed while you cut.

Bevel cuts are possible by pulling the red lever on the side of jigsaw. Pull the base plate towards you and then bevel the plate to the angle of the cut you need to make, refering to the guide on top of the base plate to get the exact angle you need.

Finally, the red button found on top of both jigsaws switches the LED job light on or off. Being able to control if the light is on is great when you're making inverted cut when you don't want to be partially blinded...

So, in conclusion, the GST160 jigsaws are very worthy additions to Bosch's long heritage of professional standard tools, providing you the choice of bow or body grips, with loads of nifty features to make your cutting applications easier.
