There's two new LightSeries drills, both are still consider ready for "lighter duty", hence the smaller and lighter 2Ah compact batteries, but there's still enough capability to truly see these as professional cordless tools. However we're focusing on the combi-drill as we know it's your favourite:

  • GSB 18-2-LI Plus Professional - See it here. Now with Electronic Motor Protection which will prevent the motor from overload and gives the tool a longer lifetime. A full 13mm chuck is found at the front, and Electronic Cell Protection is to be found in the switch. This protects the battery against overheating and deep disharge. And of course, the supplied batteries are CoolPack, meaning they don't overheat while on the charger, along with loads of other benefits which you can read about here
    • Max. drilling diameter in wood: 38 mm
    • Max. drilling diameter in steel: 13 mm
    • Max. drilling diameter in masonry: 13 mm
    • Max. screw diameter: 8 mm

The GSR 18-2-Li Plus Professional has all the same features and benefits, plus the same capabilities apart from drilling masonry.

We reckon this is a worthwhile upgrade for anyone already on Bosch's 18v lithium-ion platform. It truly is a professional-grade cordless tool, but without the hefty price tag. It's ideal for anyone looking for a lightweight, ergonomic combi drill but who doesn't want to break the bank, especially if you don't need the extra grunt provided by the higher-end combi-drills on the market.
