DeWALT DCP580 Cordless Brushless Planer - Top 5 Things You Need to Know
Posted by Mark Hunter - June 07, 2016
This is dewalt’s highly anticipated cordless planer, the DCP580.
And this is the top 5 things you need to know about it. Watch our video on Toolstop TV.
#1 - the DCP580 Benefits from a Brushless Motor
No it isn’t the first planer to rely on battery power, but it is the first to provide you with all the benefits of a brushless motor, namely longer runtime, better efficiency and longer service life. Pair it with one of Dewalt's 5Ah 18v XR batteries to the best possible runtime
#2 - it Has Class Leading Rebate Cutting of 9mm
Using the supplied parallel guide, you can quickly and easily make rebates up to 9mm.
#3 - it Offers 2mm Depth of Cut
With the blades spinning at 15,000rpm, this cordless planer has the capability of making a 2mm cut in one pass. And via the incremental depth adjustment, you can finely control the depth of your cuts in 0.1mm increments.
#4 - it Runs Twin 82mm Blades for a Smoother Finish
The blades are held within the planer's large twin blade drum, and you're supplied with two TCT blades so that you're up and running straight away. Spare blades are stored on-board and you get a torx key so that changing the blades is quick and easy.
#5 - Dust Extraction is Taken Care Of
This is via the air lock port on the side. Fit the supplied dust bag or a dust extractor to keep things super clean while you work. Hugely important when you're putting that 2mm depth of cut to use: loads of stock removal means lots of dust and debris. Hence good quality of dust extraction is important.
The DCP580 is available body-only, allowing you to use one of your existing XR batteries, or you can find it as part of the fantastic DCK665P3T 6 piece cordless kit, both of which are available now from Toolstop.
