Drill Powerfully and Safely With DeWALT Tools - What You Need to Know

SDS+ rotary hammers are all about brute strength and functionality. You expect to be drilling or chipping concrete, masonry and brick with these tools.

But you also expect to be able to drill safely. In this article we'll take a look at two products from DeWALT that will enable you to quickly and safely do all the things you want to with an SDS+ rotary hammer drill.

The DCH364M2 is one of the new products DeWALT has recently announced as part of their extended 36v range. Yes, it runs off a 36v li-ion battery, but the big new selling point of these batteries is the increased capacity to 4Ah.

Longer runtime awaits!

It also comes with a Quick Change chuck in the box. Again, this is about speed while you work, allowing you to quickly swap out the SDS+ plus chuck for a standard collared one, meaning you can use standard bits.

The motor outputs 600W, spinning the chuck, via the variable speed trigger, up to 1,100 rpm when you're drilling, putting holes as big as 30mm into wood and 13mm into metal. And in rotary hammer mode it'll do 26mm into concrete.

For chipping or chiselling jobs it gives you up to 4,500 blows per minute, while thanks to DeWALT's "Perform Protect" (click to visit DeWALT's site) technology you're only getting 7.1m/s hand/arm vibration. This, according to DeWALT, is the lowest in class.

So, longer working hours when using this tool, with reduced fatigue. Ideal and safe.

And as mentioned above, this new SDS+ rotary hammer is supplied 2 of the upgraded 4Ah batteries, along with the DE9000 charger, a side handle (adjustable to various positions), a depth-stop and the two chucks.

But how can you make sure you're safe from harmful dust when using the DCH364M2 on brick, masonry or concrete?

We've written about this issue before, which highlighted some great safety products already on the market. However, let's focus on how DeWALT will help your respiratory system when using the DCH364M2.

While its name may be a mouthful, the purpose of it is pretty clear; attached it to your 36v rotary hammer and let it take care of controlling the dust created when you're drilling concrete.

As with the low vibration on the DCH364M2, the addition of the dust extraction system is all part of the "Perform Protect" idealogy DeWALT is bringing into its power tools, with them claiming a "dust-free" drilling environment.

The system slots onto your DeWALT SDS+ rotary hammer without the need for any tools, and the brushed cup sits where the drill bit makes contact with whatever you're drilling. The dust is then drawn down the extraction hose. It's worth noting that it's designed for drill bits up to 16mm.

Because the D25302DH-XJ benefits from its own motor, it doesn't require any draw from the motor of your drill, it also means that the extraction is maintained at all times regardless of the hammer speed.

The dust is then drawn down into the washable HEPA filter which is efficient with dust as small as 0.3 microns with 99.5% efficiency.

All in all it's a compact and lightweight set-up and it's designed for any DeWALT 28v or 36v SDS+ rotary hammer, so there's no excuse for DeWALT users to make sure both they and those around them are safe from dust while they drill!
