How to: Fit Top Supports to Telesteps Ladders
Posted by Mark Hunter - May 03, 2011
Working at a safe angle when up a ladder is paramount. Being able to stand on the ladder while being a safe distance away from the area you're working on is a great aid to safety. As is being able to safely position the top of your ladder on, or in, the corner of a wall.
In simple terms, leaning back while you drive a screw into a†fascia, while perched 5 metres above the ground, is not a clever idea.Top supports are designed to provide you with a safe, solid positioning of the top of your ladder, whether you're working on - or in - corner, or around a column. They're particularly useful (if not vital) when working under eaves while fixing guttering, for example.
Telesteps are famous for their range ingenius telescopic access equipment, model number 9160,†and we want to show you how to fit their optional extra top supports.
At this point it's worth mentioning that the top supports are compatible with the following models of Telesteps ladders:
First off, what do you get in the box?
- 4 nuts
- 4 small screws
- 4 larger screws
- 1 allen key
- 2 locking bars
- 2 plastic sliders
- 2 adjustable top support arms, each unassembled in 2 parts
Fitting the top supports to the top of your Telesteps is incredible simple, as seen in the video.
First, remove the plastic cap from the top of the ladder. Then, fit the locking bar into one half of the plastic sleeve. Fit this onto the top rung of the ladder, then slip the other half of the plastic sleeve around the rung so that both halves clip together. Fix them together using the supplied screws and nuts.
Now assemble the adjustable support, using the supplied screws and nuts, as shown in the video. Slide the end of the support into the top of the ladder, where you removed the cap from.
Then line up the locking bar with the hole in the support arm according to the shape you wish the support arms to form.
You're now, officially, good to go.
