Makita DF031D - Why It's Perfect for Kitchen Fitters

Kitchen fitters: you guys need a huge arsenal of tools in your kit. From routersand jigs, to sandersand scrapers. You need tools that are quick to set up, efficient to use and are always ready for you.

For those reasons, we feel that the DF031D will fit perfectly into your workflow.

Two speeds give you complete control over the rotation of the bit and a squeeze of the variable speed control trigger will take you up to 1,700rpm. Slide in a spade bit, and you'll be pushing through 21mm holes into wood, swap that out and you'll be drilling a respectable 10mm into steel.

This is obviously perfect for drilling holes through strapping for cables and pipes, for example.

And it's the speed at which you can work with the DF031D that's also impressive, due to the 1/4" hex shank. Simple, no fiddling with a keyless chuck to fit your drill bits or screwdriver bits. They're on and off in a split second. Absolutely perfect for quickly moving from drilling to driving. And you've got up to 30Nm of torque to play around with.

Sometimes Size Does Matter

When you're fitting hinges inside kitchen cabinets you don't need a bulky drill driver. Obviously... And due to the lack of a keyless chuck on the DF031D, you're dealing with a tool that's positively diminutive in the hand.  It's barely longer than the fist you grip it in, making it absolutely perfect for confined space work.

And those spaces will be brightly lit thanks to the LED light mounted just below the chuck.

It's a comfortable little tool to hold in the hand all day long, weighing in at just 0.88kg, and it's wrapped up in the soft, rubbery grip we expect to see on a Makita power tool. Slip it onto your belt via the belt hook or stand it up wherever you need it to be, which is a new option for a Makita 10.8v tool.

That's because it's part of the brand new Compact eXtreme Technology system where Makita has taken it's traditional 10.8v batteries, upped the standard capacity to 2Ah and made the batteries slide-on. The tools now have the same look and feel as their bigger 18v LXT brothers, but with all the size and weight benefits of 10.8v.

The batteries supplied with the DF031D will last longer and provide a more efficient power source to the drill driver itself due to the improved technology within. You can read all about it - and watch our exclusive video - in this article.

To summarise:

  • hex chuck - no faffing about changing bits
  • lightweight - easy to use in the hand all day, every day
  • plenty of power - from fiddly little screws to punchy big holes in wood
  • improved batteries - run all day, no fuss

We reckon the DF031D from Makita could be the perfect drill driver for kitchen fitters and an excellent introduction into the new CXT 10.8v world - see the range here - and by buying the kit with 2 batteries, you'll be able to add more CXT tools in body-only variations as you go forward!
