Makita DK18027 18v LXT 6-pack - a Toolstop Review
Posted by Mark Hunter - May 07, 2013
It's said that the best things come in threes. It's also said that the best things come in small packages.
We're prepared to produce for you the exepction to both statements.
It's called the Makita DK18027 18V LXT Lithium-Ion 6 Piece Cordless Kit.
As you can see, in this case the best things don't come in threes. They come in a six pack. Of course, beer drinkers already knew that. However, in this instance we're dealing with some cold, hard sober Makita power tools. 6 in total.
This kit from Makita comes with robust hold-all that you'll fill with tools that allow you to cut, grind, drive, drill and illuminate the proceedings while you work.
First up is the BSS610 Circular Saw. See it in action on Toolstop TV, click here.
Here's the spec:
- Max Cut @ 90°: 57mm
- Max Cut @ 45°: 40mm
- Max Cut @ 50°: 36mm
- Blade Diameter: 165mm
- Bore Diameter: 20mm
- No Load Speed: 3,700
- Net Weight: 3.2kg
- Max Cut in Wood: 255mm
- Max Cut in Pipe: 130mm
- Length of Stroke: 28mm
- Strokes per minute: 0-2,900spm
In addition to both of these excellent saws, the kit includes a best-selling grinder, the BGA452 Angle Grinder. A grinding disk is in the pack, too, so you'll be up cutting and grinding in no time, with the following spec at your beckon call:
- Grinding Wheel: 4-1/2" / 115mm
- Cut-Off Wheel: 4-1/2"
- Wire Cup Brush: 3-1/2" / 115mm
- Sanding Disc: 4-1/2" / 115mm
- No Load RPM: 10,000
Keeping things brightly lit as you work is the supplied BML184 Torch. This has 2 functions, operating as either a fluorescent lamp or a standard bulb torch.
Hang it up where you need some extra light and the Xenon bulb will run for around 15 hours on a fully charged 14.4v or 18v battery.
That'll help you when you're using either the BHP458 Combi Drill or BTD146 Impact Driver.
This impact driver is a firm favourite and you can see it in action on Toolstop TV, click here.
Plus check out the spec:
- Max torque: 160 Nm
- Standard Bolt: M5-M14

Rounding off this versatile 6 piece Makita kit is the brand new BHP458 Combi Drill.
We'd written about its predecessor, the BHP451 in our Drill Buying Guide, which you can peruse here.
But it's all new, and it's brimming with top drill driver spec:
No Load Speed: 0-2000/400 rpm
Max Torque S/H: 44 / 88 Nm
Torque Settings: 21 + drill
Variable Speed Control Trigger: Yes
Max. in masonry: 16 mm

It's a genuine all-rounder and certainly deserves it's place in this brilliant 6 piece cordless kit from Makita.
Some good things do come in threes
Everyone loves a bit of wholehearted contradiction, so here goes. It turns out some good things do come in threes.
In the case of the Makita DK18027 cordless kit it's the three supplied 18v 3.0Ah batteries. Run two of your tools while the third battery remains on the supplied charger, ready for you to swap out as needed.
And you can proudly cart all of this power tool greatness around the job site in the supplied nylon Makita kit bag.
We reckon it's time to start dropping some heavy Xmas gift hints. Right now...
