Launched mid-2013, the Metabo BSA 14.4-18 LED light set about revolutionising how you light up your workspace.
And we've now seen the addition of more LED lights to the Metabo range, all available as of February 2014 from Toolstop, click to read our exclusive report, we feel these LED job site lights deserve your serious consideration.
With regards to the BSA 14.4-18 LED, when you unbox it, slap in your battery and turn it on you'll see its packing 18 powerful LEDs in a robust, durable, jobsite light.
The BSA 14.4-18 LED is naked (ie doesn't come with a battery or a charger) therefore it runs off your Metabo 14.4 and 18v li-ion battery packs, offering those dark corners of the building site a maximum of 1800 lumen, giving you a pleasing "daylight inspired", even light distribution while you work.
How Long Will the Metabo BSA 14.4-18 LED it Run For?
Metabo is claiming a fantastic 7 hours run time on a fully charged battery with minimum heat generation, meaning you can safely move it about while you work without risk of being burned!
Obviously, the higher the capacity of battery you slot into the light will determine how long it lasts, so you'll want to be using your Metabo 5.2Ah batteries, click to read all about them.
What About the Design?
The design, as mentioned, is robust, but also highly maneuverable and adjustable; you can swivel the light to suit where you're working by 180°.
The stand is rubberised, so it won't slide about, but it'll also be gentle on delicate surfaces.
We asked two tradesmen to test the light out, here's their thoughts and reactions on Toolstop TV (click here to visit YouTube).
In their review they used the optional extra tripod and they were able to illuminate the dark building they were rennovating. Perfect for when corded power isn't available. They were also impressed by the pivot function on the light giving you complete control over where the LEDs are directed.
Even without the tripod, you can mount the light on the wall or rest it on the ground or your workbench, pivotting the LEDs to where you need light. And Metabo reckon that because of its compact size you can carry it around by the handle, making it serve as a more than capable torch!
We also asked two joiners in Scotland to give us their thoughts on the quality of the light that the BSA 14.4-18 LED gives off in a dark workspace. Watch the video on Toolstop TV (click here) or in the player below.
The joiners in question were working on intricate wooden panelling on a ceiling, so having the space properly lit was vital. The BSA 14.4-18 LED ably did the job for them.
They were impressed by the amount of runtime per fully charged 5.2Ah battery (7 hours - or 2 days work...) and the brightness provided, even though it's not a mains-powered light.
So, the key takeaway points on the Metabo BSA 14.4-18 LED are:
- up to 7 hours run-time via 18v 5.2Ah Metabo batteries
- 1800 lumen for an even, uniform "daylight-like" illumination
- portable, robust, adjustable stand
