Power Tool Of the Year 2015 - Vote for Your Favourite Now
Posted by Mark Hunter - September 01, 2015
After a fantastic year of innovation, improvement and incredible performances, the world of power tools is gearing itself up for the much awaited Power Tool Oscars from 2015. This is 6th Power Tool of the Year Awards and we know for a fact that each of the manufacter's nominated for the award takes it very seriously indeed!
But more importantly it's your chance to place a vote of confidence next to your favourite tool or manufacturer, a chance to tell the world which brand deserves to receive the highly coveted PTY (or Potty as we're referring to it in the office).
Previous Winners of Your Power Tool of the Year Accolade:
2010 - WINNER of the Power Tool Oscar: Bosch GOP 10.8V0Li
2011 - WINNER of the Power Tool Oscar: DeWALTDCD985L2
2012 - WINNER of the Power Tool Oscar: Ridgid CA-300 Inspection Camera
2013 - WINNER of the Power Tool Oscar: DeWALT DCN690M2 18V Li-ion Brushless Framing Nailer
2014 - WINNER of the Power Tool Oscar: DeWALT DCS355 18V li-ion Cordless Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool
It's clear that you guys have been loving DeWALT's work over the years, the company having swept up 3 Pottys since we launched the award in 2010. Can they make it 3 Pottys in a row, or will Makita lose its Leonardo DiCaprio status?
Your votes alone will decide!
Vote in the 2015 Toolstop Power Tool of the Year Awards - Here's How it Works
Below we're going to list the 5 nominees. Your job is to look over the reasons we've chosen them, watch the demo video and read the blog report if the tool has one, then use our survey at the bottom of the page to register your vote (one vote per email address, per day - this means you can vote more than once, just not on the same day).
Remember, it isn't just the tool that's getting the coveted Potty, it's the manufacturer of the tool. As we said above, we know that these guys take this annual award very seriously, so it's a huge vote of confidence for them.
That means that even if the tool itself wasn't your personal favourite in 2015, select the manufacturer of the tools that have floated your boat.
Smart tools are finding their way into our kit boxes with increasing frequency.
It sort of makes sense; smart tools talking to our smart phones and tablets, using apps to expand the functionality and usefulness they bring us when we work with them.
This isn't Bosch's first laser measuring tool that communicates with an app on your device, but it's definitely their best yet, hence it making it onto our nominee list.
This fantastic laser measure is going to give you the power - in the palm of your hand - to create digital floor plans, import and edit existing floor plans, and export the final results using the GLM floor plan app on your Android or iOS device. Watch Bosch's official video here.
If you'd like to see Bosch and the GLM 50 win the Power Tool of the Year Oscar for 2015, vote below!
DeWalt, as you've seen, has been sweeping up the Pottys since 2011, but can they make it a hat-trick? In 2013 the DCN690 exploded onto the world stage and redefined a category of power tool; the nailer. With it's brushless motor and cordless power, it was an absolute game changer.
And now in 2015, the tool that was the obvious follow-up came along, a second-fix nailer. Still brushless. Still cordless, and now benefiting from 5Ah 18v XR batteries, the DCN660 has had you guys salivating into your 11 o'clock mugs of tea.
Watch our friend Julian Collins give us the rundown of what it can do on Toolstop TV here, and check out our Top 5 Things blog article here.

Hitachi is famous for its power house/work horse tools and the DV18DSDL/JJ falls squarely into that category. From it's 2 speed gear box delivering up to 1800rpm and 27,000imp, to its ability to battery holes up to 65mm into wood and 16mm into brick, it's a combi-drill with loads going for it.
Especially now that it ships from Toolstop with 5Ah batteries, promising double the capacity of the 3Ah packs.
The 92Nm of torque is more than enough for even the longest screws and the 13mm metal Jacobs chuck is going to grip all of your bits in its ratcheting lock. Watch it in action in our exclusive Toolstop TV video.
Could 2015 be Hitachi's year? Only you have that power, so vote now!
Leonardo DiCaprio is famous each February when he fails - once again - to win a Best Actor award at the Oscars. And Makita is famous in the world of power tools for being nominated 6 years in a row for a Potty but never winning one.
There are arguably more Makita cordless power tools on jobsites across Europe than from any other manufacturer and this new cordless circular saw is making an appearance on new builds, renovations and in the back of white vans as 2015 has progressed.
With an improved ergonomic design over previous cordless circular saws, better dust extraction capabilities and more aluminium than ever before, this is one tough and capable saw. Slap on a 5Ah battery and expect it to run and run as you slice through sheets of wood up to 66mm thick at 90º and 46mm at 45º. See it in action in our exclusive demo video on Toolstop TV.
Could Makita have done enough with the HS7601 to secure your vote and finally walk away with the Potty in 2015? Vote now!
Rebooting popular models isn't new. In the world of movies, it's a monthly occurance. And we see it happening in the world of power tools regularly also.
Metabo has taken one of the best selling mitre saws on the planet and in 2015 relaunched the already great with something greater.
The KGS216Msaw a number of tweaks, refinements and outright improvements to keep Metabo at the cutting edge of the mitre saw market. For example, it weighs a mere 13.5kg which allows it to be quickly and easily transported from your van onto the jobsite. The lighter weight helps, but so does the re-engineered handles and saw head lock.
The cutting capacities are enourmous for such a compact saw; 305mm at 90º and thanks to the left-hand bevel, 205mm at 45º.
We gushed about the KGS216M on our blog, which you should read here. And our exclusive video, shot at Metabo's HQ, can be found on Toolstop TV here.
If you feel Metabo deserves to step up to the podium and collect the 2015 Potty, it's important that you vote now!
