Posted by Mark Hunter - December 22, 2011
The tuxedo and ball gown-clad glitterati of the power tool industry gathered from all 4 corners of the globe, descending on the Uddingston offices of Toolstop for one reason; to find out who would be walking away with the Power Tool Oscar, handed out to the winner of the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year Awards.
The voting has been frantic and relentless over the past few weeks, with power tool users - and fans - from 25 countries around the world registering their vote for the best power tool of the year. But we now have a winner.
Firstly, though, a big congratulations to all 5 nominees; getting onto our shortlist is an achievement in itself!
- Bosch GCM12 GDL Professional Glide Mitre Saw
- Makita BKP180 LXT 18v Li-Ion Planer
- Dewalt DCD985L2 18V XR Li-Ion 3-Speed XRP Combi Drill
- Metabo SXE450 TurboTec 350W 150mm Disc Sander
- Hitachi KC10DFL 12V Peak Li-Ion Drill Driver and Impact Driver Twinpack
And from that list, here are your top three.
In a very respectable third place was Metabowith the SXE450 TurboTec Disc Sander. Many congratulations to Metabo creeping into this year's top 3. In second place was Bosch's GCM12 GDL Glide Mitre saw. There were audible gasps of surprise when the audience realised that the favourite had missed out on the Oscar!
Which means in first place, and the winner of the Power Tool Oscar for the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year, 2011, is.....DeWalt for it's DCD985L2 XRP Combi Drill.
