The Winner of the Power Tool Oscar 2012 Is...

Champagne, tuxedos and red carpets. These were the main ingredients last night at the 3rd annual Power Tool Oscars ceremony.
Launched back in 2010, Toolstop's Power Tool of the Year annual contest allow you, the buying public, to vote for your favourite power tool, or power tool manufacturer.
The winner then receives the now coveted Power Tool Oscar.
Back in 2010 it was Bosch who swept away the competition to pick up the inaugural Power Tool Oscar. And last year it was a surprised but delighted DeWalt who scooped the Oscar for the DCD985L2 18V XR Li-Ion 3-Speed XRP Combi Drill.
2012 was another year of innovation in the world of power tools, and we decided to mix things up a little in terms of who was nominated.
You've had the chance to vote for several weeks now, the votes have been counted and at last night's prestigious awards ceremony we were delighted to announce the winner and 2 runners up.
Power Tool of the Year - Runner Up #1 - Makita BHR242RFE 18V Cordless Brushless Rotary Hammer
Plenty of votes were tabled for Makita this year, but once again they narrowly miss out on the Power Tool Oscar. Cordless and brushless have been defining technological markers throughout 2012 and it was great to see Makita step up with a power tool that's includes both.
We reckon Makita are one to watch in 2013 as we expect them to arrive at the 4.0Ah lithium-ion battery pack party.
Power Tool of the Year - Runner Up #2 - Dewalt DCF895M2 18V Cordless Brushless Impact Driver
DeWalt gathered lots of votes once again this year, and we can understand why as the DCF895 M2 is a fantastically diminutive, brushless impact driver running off the highly-praised 4.0Ah 18v li-ion battery system.
However, the vast number of votes from DeWalt's fan-base still didn't come close to the massive share of the votes received by this year's winner.
Winner of the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year 2013 - Ridgid CA-300 Inspection
For many this was a surprising winner, but with over 35% of the received votes, they were by far the runaway success story of this year's Awards.
A delighted Marc Vandevelde, RIDGID's VP of EMEA, picked up the Power Tool Oscar and thanked all who voted for the micro CA-300 inspection camera.
It's a credit to how well this camera has been received by the public that RIDGID scooped this year's Oscar, and when we phoned John Muckle, sales manager for RIDGID in the UK, to tell him the news he responded by, in his words, "pulling his jumper over his head and whooping around the room like he'd scored at Wembly".
And then it was time to clear away the tables and chairs, to send the tuxedos off to the dry cleaners, and look out the Andrews Liver Salts.
But the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year will be back in 2013 and you'll have the chance, once again to support your favourite power tool manufacturer.
