Toolstop Podcast #111 - Happy New Year! New Tools from Makita and Bosch
Posted by Mark Hunter - January 05, 2012
Neil and Mark kick off 2012 with a brand new Toolstop Podcast! The guys chat about what they got up to over Xmas and New Year, including Neil celebrating New Year's day on a beach!
We've got some news on Makita's new range of professional power tools for quarter 1 of 2012, which include the Makita CC300 tile saw, running off Makita's excellent 10.8v lithium-ion batteries.
Additional in this range of new tools for 2012 we have a new job site radio - the Makita BMR102, which runs off 10.8v batteries.
We reckon this is going to be a massive seller, but what do you think; a job site radio with DAB that'll run off your Makita 10.8s?
Be sure that we'll keep you smack bang up to date with the latest new tools from Makita, and we'll have photos and videos as soon as possible.
What about Bosch?
Bosch don't like to be left behind, so they're very chuffed with their new GSB 10.8-2-LI Professional combi drill. As you'd expect, it's the "best in class" in everything, but one particular feature of note is Bosch's claim that it will handle 524 screws per battery charge. We'd love to know what you think of this claim, so let us know in the comments.
On top of this, it'll give you hammer and drilling too, all in a ridiculously small housing.
Bosch are playing catch up with Makita in the world of cordless planers, but they've now come to market with the GHO 18 V-LI & 14.4 V-LI Professional cordless planers. As you'd expect, these planers are the lightest and highest performing in their class. According to Bosch.
One of the unique selling points is the "wood-razor system", which is basically a single blade system which Bosch are claiming will give you significantly longer battery life over Makita's cordless planer. Again, we can't wait to see this in action!
In other news from Bosch, all of their 18v lithium-ion professional power tools will be available "naked" in L-Boxxes. Bosch are calling it "Click & Go". So rather than having to buy a naked too, then choose an L-Boxx and an insert, their entire range of 18v li-ion tools are available in L-Boxxes so that you can click and go!
Also from Bosch, we've got 2 new hammers, the Bosch GBH 2-24 D/DF Professional 2 kg with SDS+. Once again features abound, including 790W motors, 2.7 J of impact energy, 3 funtions (hammer drilling, hammer and chisel) and a quick-change chuck in the DF version.
Bosch are citing 5 reasons why a professional tradesperson would want a Boschhammer:
2. Impact force
4. Life time
5. Hammer heritage
This last reason is interesting, considering that Bosch are celebrating 80 years in the hammer drill market!
We also cover off the Bosch GLM 50 Professional Laser Rangefinder, whose features include 50m range, IP54 rated for water, dust, bumps etc and a big, bright display.
And, finally, the Bosch D-Tect 150 SV Professional Wallscanner. This is going to be able to detect cables, pipes, etc in wet concrete! It features a centre finder function which will highlight the middle of the detected object as well as showing the depth, and the material specification.
All in all, an exciting start to 2012 from Makita and Bosch. We can't wait to hear what you guys think of these new products and we'll bring you photos and videos of them as soon as we can!
