New Year is the time of year. It's a time of stock-taking, forward planning and life adjustments.
Who are we kidding?
It's a time of hangovers, Alka-Seltzers, turkey leftovers, over-flowing bins and crowded shopping malls.
However, we like to be traditional here in Toolstop, so we've put together a simple guide to New Years Resolutions.
New Years Resolution #1: Be More Safety Conscious
Nowadays we're all under scrutiny for our adherence to health and safety directives with virtually all jobsites prominently displaying posters urging and reminding us that it's ourresponsibility to ensure our own safety and wellbeing, as well as that of those working around us.
To help you guys with this we get as much information from the tool manufacturers as to what you need to do to be safe when using their tools.
For example, our friends at Makita gave us loads of tips on staying safe when using a grinder, one of potentially most dangerous tools!
You can read our articles, each with a demo video, on the Power Tool University section of the blog:
- Grinder Discs - 9 Point Safety Check-list - step by step instructions on how to make sure you're using the correct grinder disc and whether its in proper condition
- Grinder Safety Check List - a Toolstop University How To - detailed instructions on making sure your grinder is safe to use
A vital area to be well versed on is the risks of concrete and masonry dust.
We've compiled a comprehensive guide ensuring yours and those around you's safety:
New Years Resolution #2: Get a Better Toolbox
Remember those first days back at school when you'd show up all chuffed because your mum had bought you a new school bag?
Recreate those feelings by showing up on the jobsite in 2015 with a brand new toolbox, that you bought yourself!
The Toolstop site has loads to choose from, especially if you're loyal to your favourite power tool manufacturer. For example, you can read all about the DeWalt ToughSystem here (and see how it was installed in a VW Van here).
And then you've got Teng TCMM1001N Mega Master Tool Kit. Check out this corker on Toolstop TV (click here or view in the player below).
New Years Resolution #3: Buy Proper Drill Bits
We're passionate about making sure our readers and customers have the best possible kit in their vans, boxes and bags.
It's easy, though, to overlook the small things, in this instance drill bits.
Using the wrong bit in your drill or driver will make your job harder and more expensive. So aim to start 2015 with the right bits to do your bits 'n' bobs.
Click here to read what one professional power tool user has to say about choosing - and using - the correct bits in your drill. You'll thank us for it later.
Makita's particularly good at bundling up their bits in great boxes, which you can see more of here, and check out our video of Makita D 21200 SDS Plus 17 Piece Drill and Chisel Set.
But in addition to Makita, we stock loads of great drill bits and full sets, and you can see them all here.
New Years Resolution #4: Treat Yourself to Something Special
This is where you get to indulge yourself a little. Let's face it, you work hard. You work long hours. You've got a big year ahead of you.
Along with applying Toolstop's New Years Resolutions, as above, we reckon you also need to resolve to treat yourself to something special.
If you haven't already done so, 2015 should be the year where you consider upgrading some of your cordless power tools to brushless versions.
Better runtimes from your batteries on a like-for-like application basis, longer tool lifetime due to the improved motor, and a tool that'll take a knock.
What do we recommend?
Well, take a look at the fantastic Dewalt DCS355N 18V li-ion Cordless Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool, which became hugely popular during 2014. See it in action below.
Another great brushless tool to consider in 2015 is Bosch's GBH18V-EC (also known as GBH 18V-EC). It's an 18v SDS+ rotary hammer that's incredibly small and benefits from running off of Bosch's CoolPack 4Ah batteries and Electronically Commutated Motor. Learn all about it in our video.
And finally, as Makita appears to be leading the way with new brushless cordless power tools, the Makita DJV181RMJ 18V Cordless Brushless Li-ion Barrel Grip Jigsaw, supplied with two 4Ah batterie, is definitely worth considering. Read our review of it here.
Watch our exclusive demo video.
Finally, from the manufacturer of probably the most famous oscillating multi-cutter, FEIN's ASCM18QX is a gloriously well equipped brushless drill driver, and it benefits from their 3 year warranty. Our blog review explains why you need one in 2015.
