Brand new for 2013, DeWalt has launched a 250mm blade diameter slide saw.
The model number is DWS778, and here’s our hands-on review.
We’ll cover the following benefits to owning this saw:
- Slide rails
- Dust extraction
- XPS light
- Integrated positive mitre stops
- Slide guides
- Capacities and capabilities
The first thing noticeable about the DWS778 compact mitre saw is that it is, indeed, compact, despite the large blade size (which spins at up to 4300rpm).
Slide Rails
The compact size is aided by the slide rails, allowing the saw to sit flush to the wall where you’re working; the slide rails do not extend out the back of the saw.
Dust Extraction
This is a key feature of any saw these days, and reliable dust extraction is essential especially when working indoors, such as in the case of kitchen fitters.
The DWS778’s curved dust shoot is compatible with DeWalt’s Airlock system. A quick quarter-turn locks the hose in place meaning the hose will not pop-off even when the saw moving up and down, in and out.
XPS Light
The XPS light fitted to the DWS778 saw is a fantastic feature on any saw. It provides you with 100% accurate cross-cutting lines, 100% of the time.
It also serves as a highly efficient job light, idea for when working in low-light areas, or during the darker winter months.
Integrated Positive Mitre Stops
The DeWalt DWS778’s mitre stops can be set, with a reassuringly positive “click”, to 15°, 22.5°, 30°, 45° and 50°. With a twist of the quick-release handle the angle can be set to any angle in-between.
Slide Guides
The base and fence have been machined to meet the accuracy requirements of the most demanding applications. The slide guides can be moved right up to the blade to prevent any nasty little off-cuts flying about the place!
Capacities and Capabilities
Have a great specced out saw like the DWS788 is one thing, but knowing that it’ll handle the jobs you need it to is another.
We reckon DeWalt have got the balance between key user benefits and handling capacities. See our table below.
Blade Bore: | 30mm |
Bevel Capacity: | 48 ° |
Mitre Capacity [right/left]: | 50/50 ° |
Cutting Capacity at 90°/90° (W x H): | 305×85 mm |
