Posted by Toolstop Colin on 15th Oct 2013

Metabo presents it’s new cordless solutions for demanding drilling and screwdriving applications with five new compact drill/drivers and impact drills.

In October, Metabo UK will be introducing five new cordless drills/drivers and impact drills available in LTX, LTX Quick and LTX Brushless Quick.

We’ve got an exclusive scoop on these new tools, so keep reading for:

Brushless Motors Powered by 5.2Ah

Brushless is a new direction for Metabo, with DeWALT, Bosch and Makita already offering you guys great brushless drills and impact drivers.

However, we reckon the chance to run a brushless motor in your drill powered by the gargantuan 5.2Ah capacity of Metabo’s li-ion batteries is going to make the professional power tool world sit up and take notice.

We don’t know what the expected runtime of these drill in typical applications are yet, but we’re sure you can expect big numbers.

Who Should Buy a New Metabo Brushless Drill

Here’s what Metabo has to say about these new drills:

The cordless drill/driver BS 18 LTX BL Quick and the cordless impact drill SB 18 LTX BL Quick are ideally suited for use in the building trade and metal industry – from the smallest and precise screw-driving jobs to quick drilling in wood and metal and other demanding applications.

With 600 rpm in first and 2,050 in second gear they feature the highest speed currently available on the market in the 2-to 3-gear class. This allows the users to work in a quick and efficient manner.

The required power is supplied by the maximum torque of 44/90 Nm for soft/hard screw-driving.

What’s Special About Metabo Brushless Tools

Metabo has equipped the brushless machines with numerous intelligent functions that, they’re claiming, no other manufacturer currently offers in this combination.Metabo says these new brushless motors offer “an electronic torque coupling for precise, flush screw-driving and in the lower torque setting they automatically adapt the speed for more precise working especially with smaller screws”.

This means the user can switch between maximum power, impulse mode and pre-set torque using the mode switch, enabling you to save valuable time when having to switch between different applications.

New 4 Pole Carbon Brushed Motors

Not everyone is ready to bounce onto brushless motored power tools. For those of you who still want a brushed motor, Metabo has a couple of options for you, thanks to their new tools featuring 4 pole carbon brushes.

These 4 pole motors are, according to Metabo, “designed to deal with a high overload capacity”, all wrapped up in a package that the stats tell us are more compact and lighter than their predecessors.

The new cordless drill/drivers BS 18 LTX and BS 18 LTX Quick and the cordless impact drills SB 18 LTX and SB LTX Quick offer 30 percent more torque, with maximum torque for soft/hard screw-driving being 55/110Nm, as well as increased speed by up to 20% with idling speeds of 500rpm in first and 1,700 in second gear and overload capacity has been increased by up to 30%.

Cool New Features

Not content with all of the above, Metabo are also proud about the following new features included on these drills:

  • Vibration Actived LED Lights. Pick up your drill and the LED light sense this and starts to illuminate your work area, even before you’ve pressed the trigger
  • Intelligent switch and motor. As soon as the temperature in the motor, switch or battery pack is too high, the machine will shut down automatically
  • Kick-back protection. If the drill gets jammed and blocks, the kick-back protection shuts down the machine automatically protecting the wrists of the user and reducing the risk of injury
  • Ultra-M battery technology. this is Metabo’s intelligent battery management and processor-controlled charging and de-charging management translate to maximum performance, reliability and durability for the user, backed up by a 3 year warranty

Loads more on these drill coming over the next couple of months and as soon as we get our hands on them we’ll bring you exclusive in-depth video reviews.
