We don’t need to chatter too much about why you should be making the switch to brushless cordless power tools. It’s a big YES to the following:
- Longer runtimes per charge due to no friction loss caused by brushes
- Longer tool lifetime due to fewer moving parts
- Maintenance-free (ie. no changing worn brushes)
- Lighter tool
- More robust tool
First off, is a cordless drill driver the right tool for you? Our blog guide will help you answer that question, as will our Toolstop TV report:
Which Makita Cordless Drill is best?
Ok, so now that we’ve got that out of the way, what caught our eye about this new Makita brushless impact driver?
High Performance, Low Vibration.
The DDF484 packs a punch, which when you consider it’s light weight and short head length, is fantastic. Here’s how it stacks up via its 16 torque + drill settings:
Max Fastening Torque | Maximum Output | No Load Speed |
30/54 Nm | 370 w | (Hi) 0 – 2000 rpm & (Lo) 0 – 500 rpm |
Capacity in Steel | Capacity in Wood | Chuck Capacity |
13 mm | 38 mm | 13 mm |
However, despite its excellent performance and capabilities, it takes care of the vibration very well.
Vibration: Drilling into metal | Vibration K factor |
2.5 m/sec² | 1.5 m/sec² |

A Protected Brushless Drill Driver
The DDF484 is a tough little beast of a drill driver, from the aluminium gear housing to the all-metal gear construction. It may weigh just 1.8kg (without battery) and have a head length of only 182mm, but it’s built to take a knock. Plus the brushless motor is more able to withstand jobsite abuse into the bargain.
In addition to this, the chuck is, of course, keyless and there are twin LED lights above the trigger to shed loads of light on whatever you’re working on, ideal for the back of kitchen cabinets. And finally, as we expect from Makita, the grip is ergonomic and any area of the drill where you’re likely to have your hands is rubberised which helps with comfort while reducing vibration.
