Dewalt DWE6005 – Why it's More Than a Laminate Trimmer

Everything you need to know about the Dewalt DWE6005

To call the DeWALT DWE6005 just a “laminate trimmer” would amount to massively under-estimating what it’ll allow you to do. Our guide will take you through the features and benefits of it, and why you should add one to your kit today.

We’ve got a Toolstop exclusive demo video of the DWE6005 in action which you can watch on Toolstop TV here:

DWE6005 Dewalt Laminate Trimmer - What are its features?

First things first, the spec of it needs to be considered. Here’s the official DeWALT breakdown of what it’ll offer you:

  • Power Input: 590 Watts
  • Power Output: 340 Watt
  • No Load Speed: 16000 – 34000 rpm
  • Plunge Stroke/Movement: 22 mm
  • Collet Size: 6mm (1/4″ GB / LX)
  • Max. Cutter Diameter: 29 mm
  • Hand/Arm Vibration: 2.5 m/s2
  • Uncertainty K 1 (Vibration): 1.5 m/s?
  • Sound Pressure: 78 dB(A)
  • Sound Pressure Uncertainty: 3 dB(A)
  • Sound Power: 89 dB(A)
  • Sound Power Uncertainty: 3 dB(A)

Laminate trimmers, by definitions, are engineered to perform the simple, but at times fiddly, task of trimming laminates. However, the DWE6005 serves as much more than just a tool for trimming off laminate edges.

DWE6005 Laminate Trimmer Review

It’s ideal for working in any small area or for performing repetitive tasks like shaping edges and chamfering, or for working with templates such as when cutting notches for hinges using something like a Trend hinge recessing jig.

And with the 600W of power available via the variable speed dial, it’s got more than enough grunt for these types of applications. And talking of variable speed, you can control the rotation of your cutter from 16000 to 34000 rpm.

Key Benefits of the DeWALT DWE6005

While it’s a tool designed for simple routing and trimming jobs, DeWALT hasn’t skimped on the features. For example, it benefits from a bump stop switch. So, if you’re holding the trimmer in one hand, while the other is holding the workpiece, you can simply bump the tool against your chest, for example, and it’ll kill the motor.

Removable dust extraction is attached to the D-shaped guard, which in itself is ideal for working in tight spaces. And underneath DeWALT has included a bright LED work light, which along with the clear base will help you when working in a tight, dark corners such as in a newly built house, etc.

Adjusting the depth of the cutter is incredibly simple but accurate. Unlock the trimmer and just rotate the black threaded wheel which will give you micro adjustments of the depth the cutter works at.

On top of all this, in the box you get a copy follower, a guide fence, a 17mm spanner to use when changing cutters and 6mm (1/4″) collets. We reckon this is a great new tool from DeWALT - compact, lightweight but powerful, and with enough features to allow you to do much more than just trim laminates.
