Cornelius Whitehouse & Sons started trading in 1869 in Cannock about 20 miles outside Birmingham. They once employed more than 300 workers, making the Hedgehog brand and hammers of all kinds. It closed in 1964. G.Gibson & Company bought the hammer division of Footprint Tools in 2009. The hammers continue to be made by Gibson at Barrowby Lane in Garforth, north of Sheffield.
