Flashing lights, red carpets, tuxedos and champagne were the order of the evening on Friday as we welcomed our Power Tool of the Year nominees to our annual Power Tool Oscars.
In attendance were Makita, DeWALT, Bosch, Metabo and Hitachi, each company feeling the nerves of anticipation as they awaited your choice of Toolstop's Power Tool of the Year.
This is always a big occasion for the manufacturers of your power tools. Each company takes the chance to win your vote seriously, and were thrilled at the number of you who responded by places your vote - and your confidence - in your power tool of the year.
We launched the Power Tool Oscars back in 2010 and each year since we've seen more and more votes registered and this year was no exception. And again, it was a close call, however we have one clear winner.
Last year saw Ridgid pick up the gong for their CA-300 Inspection Camera, but this year they didn't make it to the shortlist of nominees, so it was wide open. Bosch claimed the majority of your votes back in 2010, and we tipped Makita to possibly be runaway winners this year.
Would innovation sway your vote? Or would it be consistency in producing top-quality tools year after year? Perhaps you'd go for the underdog this time around.
So, without further ado, we're delighted to announce your 2 runners up and your winner of the Power Tool of the Year 2013.
We really thought they'd pinch the lion's share of your votes in 2013, but it wasn't to be, Makita - once again - missed out on the Power Tool Oscar, but by a very narrow margin. The company has launched more and more brushless tools in 2013, and now that they're on the 4Ah li-ion bandwagon, we can only wonder what suprises in innovation they'll have for you in 2014. Perhaps that'll be their year.
Runner up #2 - Bosch GOP18VECNCG 18V Cordless Professional Multi-Tool
Bosch's new GOP, a tool they keep improving and refining each year, features a brushless motor and will take the new 4Ah CoolPack li-ion batteries. But the promise of longer run-times and tool life-time wasn't enough for you to vote it to the top prize this year. We're sure 2014 will bring us loads of exciting new tools from Bosch, so perhaps they'll claim the top prize then.
Winner of the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year 2013 -
Winners in 2011, perhaps its no surprise that DeWALT received more of your votes than the competition, especially when they were nominated for what is without doubt a fantastic tool.
Brushless, cordless, lightweight and long-lasting, their new framing nailer captured your imagination as soon as we told you about it.
And as a result, you voted for them to win the Toolstop Power Tool of the Year Oscar for 2013.
It was a close call, however, with Makita pushing them hard all the way, but DeWALT just pipped them at the post by a mere 3% of your votes!
Surely the closest call we've seen.
So, you've made your choice and DeWALT has won the Power Tool Oscar once again.
But who will win in 2014?
Only you can decide!
