Toolstop is a wholly owned subsidiary of Noel Kegg Limited. A tool retailer aimed at professional tradespeople who need quality products delivered on time and at a competitive price.
The business which was started by Noel Kegg on 30th November 1965. It has come a long way since the early days when he had a small shop in Bellshill, which also doubled up as his home for the first year, selling Stanley hand tools, Yale locks, ironmongery and hardware. He used to lock up at lunch time and visit local businesses such as Caterpillar, Philips and Honeywell, who all gave him wish lists of tools and ironmongery that they required. He would then order these from his suppliers and deliver to the customers the following day when he would receive new wish lists.
As business developed, Noel decided to move to larger premises, again in Bellshill, where he took on some staff (our longest serving employee John Bissett has been with the company since 1971) and continued to expand the range and customer base. He then had the opportunity to buy a huge warehouse in Birdsfield St, Burnbank, Hamilton and moved there in early 1975.
In the 1980s Black & Decker professional power tools were launched in the UK and were introduced to the range along with Startrite machinery and Elu power tools. Bosch was added in the early 90s and since then more brands which we still sell today including Makita and Dewalt (Elu was bought out by Dewalt) and we now stock all the top UK selling brands of professional power tools.
As the business evolved the core principle of looking after the customer has remained constant. Noel always took pride in delivering a good quality product, on time and at a fair price, and these principles remain at the core of todays business.
After many successful years trading, Noel retired in 2000 and his son, Calum, took over as MD. 2007 heralded the launch of Toolstop.co.uk, a dynamic and innovative award winning website, which allowed the company to expand into new markets. Over the last few years, Toolstop has evolved into one of the UK's largest independent stockists and distributors of quality hand tools, power tools and accessories.
In 2010, Toolstop had outgrown the warehouse in Burnbank and moved everything to a new much larger warehouse and office block next to the M74 motorway. This is where the company is based to this day.
Toolstop has grown into one of the leading online suppliers of power tools worldwide as well as being supplier to significant multinational retailers and with a wholesale division supplying tool dealers throughout the UK.
Toolstop remains a family run business and with the core principles of the 1960's still in place it's no wonder the company goes from strength to strength.
