Makita BKP180RFE Cordless Planer – How to Rebate Cut

Posted by Toolstop Colin on 9th Jul 2013

In this short guide we’ll show you how to set up the Makita BKP180RFE 18v li-ion planer to make rebate cuts.

Step 1: Fit the side fence to the planer

This is easy, simply slide the fence into the hole on the planer, tightening it using the locking screw at the front. A neat design feature of the fence is that it has a down-turn that gives the fence sufficient clearance for the blade, allowing you to rebate up to 9mm.

Step 2: Adjust the depth of your cut

Take this in stages. For example, four passes of 1.5mm will give you a rebate of 6mm and you’ll be keeping the cut controlled as you go. This will give you a smooth and even rebate. The big benefit of the BKP180RFE is the beautifully engineered base plate. No snagging, catching or dragging as you plane.

We asked Neil Bradbury of Avalon Builders to test the Makita BKP180RFE by making a rebate cut, here are his thoughts on its design, features and benefits. Watch it on Toolstop TV.
