All About the Makita DHP453 Combi Drill

Everything you need to know about the Makita DHP453

Makita’s cordless combi-drills are popular, dependable and capabable. The company’s range gets refreshed regularly, so to help you keep on top of what’s currently on offer from the Japanese giant’s combi-drill stable, we’re going to walk you through the DHP453.

Yes, it’s a cordless combi-drill. Yes, it runs off Makita’s 18V LXT battery packs. But we’ve got an exclusive video of it in action, and we’re going to show you some of the specs, benefits and features to help you decide if it has a place in your daily kit.

To see the DHP453 “in the flesh”, watch our video on Toolstop TV below:

Is the DHP453 the Best Makita Combi Drill?

What’s the Spec of the Makita DHP453 Combi-Drill?

All of its capabilities come, of course, from Makita’s utra-reliable, high-powered motor, outputting between the two gear speeds up to 19,500 impacts per minute and 1,300rpm, and control is provided via the electronic brake.

This will allow you to drill up to:

  • 13mm into masonry
  • 13mm into steel
  • 36mm into wood

For driving applications, you can choose one of the 16 torque settings, giving you between 27 and 42Nm of torque. The gear box is metal, as is the single sleeve chuck, and it’s all wrapped up with Makita’s excellent rubberised grips to give you a great ergonomic experience, while helping to protect the combi-drill from day-to-day knocks and bumps.

Features of the DHP453

One of the versions we’re offering on our website, which you can buy here, comes in a durable kit box and includes a Makita 3 Amp Battery and fast charger which is capable of charging the 3Ah batteries in just 22 minutes. Also included is a 101 piece accessory set for all screwdriving and drilling applications!

What Batteries Fit on the Makita DHP453?

As it’s a “starred” version (click to learn more about the compatibility of Makita’s batteries) you’ll be able to insert any Makita 18V LXT li-ion battery, including the 5Ah packs (which will charge in a mere 45 minutes). Perfect if you’ve got any spare Makita batteries sitting on the charger.

And clearly with the ultra-fast charging times, you’ll be able to use the Makita DHP453 all day long, making it not only powerful and reliable, but un-put-downable!

We reckon the DHP453 is an ideal add-on to anyone already invested in Makita’s 18V LXT range, which now features over 70 tools! While it may not have the high-power offered by something like new brushless DHP481 combi drill, it’s perfect for kitchen fitters, electricians etc, particularly for fixing and fitting applications.
