Which Makita Drill to Buy

Makita DHP484 18V Brushless Combi Drill

With 21 torque settings for loads of control for screw driving and a whopping 7,500 blows per minute in hammer mode, the DHP484 is a true powerhouse of a combi-drill. And it manages to contain all this power and functionality in a body that’s just 182mm in length. In part, that’s thanks to the brushless motor, which helps keep the tool running as efficiently as possible, lasting ages on a charged 5Ah 18V LXT battery.

The Makita DHP482 has 2 speeds offering you up to 1,900rpm and will drill holes up to 38mm into wood and 13mm into masonry. For screw driving jobs there are 21 torque settings for plenty of control over the available torque. Features a handy twin LED job light so that even in the back of kitchen cabinets you’ll have plenty of illumination. The gearbox is all metal and, of course, it features Makita’s famously great ergonomics.

Makita HP332Z 10.8V CXT Combi Drill

When Makita re-booted its 10.8V cordless platform, it launched a raft of new tools that upped the stakes in terms of performance. These included the HP332, a combi-drill powered by 10.8V CXT batteries. While it obviously lacks the brute power of the 18V models, it’s ideal for anyone who occasionally needs a combi-drill for drilling fixing holes, for example. While the size is small, compact, and lightweight, it still has 2 speeds, 20 torque settings and provides 35Nm of hard torque. The motor is brushless, keeping the weight to around 1kg.
