TStak Vs ToughSystem - What's the difference?

What's the difference between TStak and ToughSystem?

Dewalt recently announced the launch of their new TStak and ToughSystem 2.0 Tool Boxes, but what is the difference between the two and how do they stack up against the originals? In this Toolstop guide, we will compare the two bestselling kit boxes from Dewalt.

Tool boxes are an essential piece of your kit. Whether you use them to keep your tools safe when not in use, or to transport your tools across the job, everyone needs one. Dewalt are legendary creators of tool boxes. Light duty or heavy duty, big or small, they have one to suit all. Below we have compared the new TStak 2.0 to the original TStak, as well as ToughSystem 2.0 to its original.

TStak Vs TStak 2.0

Dewalt Tstak is a flexible storage solution for all your must have tools and accessories. With its strong, easy to use interlocking system, TStak units can be configured to your exact requirements. These tool boxes are ideal for trade professionals or DIY enthusiasts.

They are fully customisable for your individual needs. You can stack the boxes accordingly for easier transportation, and the range of TStak accessories, like trolleys and van racking, is second to none.
These tool boxes feature metal latches and ball bearing slides which provide optimum reliability. You can even attach a padlock for increased safety. Build the system to suit your needs with the extensive TStak range.

We have a full blog post dedicated to the original TStak tool boxes, which you can read here.

But what's new with TStak 2.0?

Original TStak TStak 2.0
  • Capacity load: 30Kg
  • Plastic modular stacking latches
  • Lockable
  • 2.5mm Polypropylene body
  • Metal hinges
  • Metal latches
  • Capacity Load: 30Kg
  • Metal pin modular stacking latches
  • Lockable
  • 2.5mm Polypropylene body
  • Metal hinges
  • Heavy duty metal latches
  • IP54 water and dust seal
  • Backwards compatible with original TStak
  • Tracker ready - pair with your Dewalt Tool Box app so you always know where your tool box is

So to conclude, a lot has stayed the same with TStak 2.0 such as the weight capacity, locking functionality and body material itself, but there have also been some great upgrades. The stacking latches are now a lot tougher and durable, but most importantly these tool boxes now have an IP54 rating for water and dust seal. This means that they are more resistant to the elements so can be used in tougher applications and on rougher job sites.

ToughSystem Vs ToughSystem 2.0

ToughSystem is like TStak's older brother. This storage solution is well and truly built to last. It's portable, durable and fully customisable. Its tough outer body can withstand drops of up to 3 feet, making it the ideal solution for working on and around job sites. These boxes feature metal hinges and latches that have been sprayed for 24 hours straight with a water/salt solution with no reported corrosion damage. Their IP65 rating makes them almost fully waterproof for working outside, in rain and even snow. Your tools and accessories will be fully protected from the elements with ToughSystem. These boxes have a larger 50kg load capacity, meaning you can carry heavier tools for longer.

Overall, ToughSystem is tougher, more robust and resistant to the impacts of the job site. Like TStak, the ToughSystem storage system is completely customisable to your needs, and the range of accessories available is second to none.

So to conclude, both Toughsystem and Toughsystem 2.0 maintain their large 50Kg load capacity, the IP rating remains the same at a whopping IP65, and they both have locking functionality for optimum security. But, the outer casing is now slightly thinner on the new model, which gives you a 20% larger storage capacity and it is tracker ready, meaning you can pair it with your Dewalt Tool Box app so you never lose it again. You can even attach half module boxes!

What is the best tool box?

Depending on your trade, and what you are going to use your tool box for, will depend which one you should go for. If you are going to be working outside in all weather conditions and seasons, on rugged uneven surfaces and overall the environment is a bit hash bash, ToughSystem is your best bet. It can well and truly live up to the task. But bear in mind that ToughSystem toolboxes are slightly more expensive due to their impressive features.

If you are going to be working mainly indoors, or in dry weather and aren't too hash bash with your tools, TStak will do the job just as well. Afterall, these boxes are fully lockable with an extremely durable outer body and large 30kg load capacity.

Both TStak and ToughSystem 2.0 are fully backwards compatible, meaning you can buy the 2.0 range, and it will still fit onto your older storage solutions.

*Please note, ToughSystem and TStak are not compatible with eachother*

What tool box do you swear by, TStak or Toughsystem? Have you managed to get your hands on any of the new 2.0 range?
