All About the DCF887 DeWalt Impact Driver

Sometimes smaller is better.

Impact drivers often need to be used in tight, compact spaces.

So, if that's the case, we need to have in our kit a power tool that’ll be free from cords and small enough to work where we need it to whilst also packing the sort of power that’ll both surprise and amaze us.

That’s where the DeWalt DCF887 comes in, and we’ll show you why it’s worthy of space in your tool bag!

Top 5 Things You Need to Know

To start off, watch our exclusive video overview of all the spec and features on Toolstop TV:

Everything You Need to Know About the DCF887 Dewalt Brushless Impact Driver

#1 – Brushless Motor

Brushless motors mean that DeWalt is able to engineer an impact driver that has a head length of only 140mm, making it compact enough to work in even the tightest of spaces.

Plus you’ll have a tool in your hand that weighs a mere 1.4kg. In addition, brushless means virtually no servicing and loads more runtime from your XR lithium-ion battery packs.

#2 – Power

The DCF887 is 16% faster and 28% more powerful than its predecessor the DCF886. It is capable of producing up to 205Nm of torque with its 400 Watt motor.

At Toolstop this DeWalt Impact Driver is available to shop as a kit with batteries, charger and kitbox. You can snap up the tidy little, upgraded version which comes with a 4Ah battery.

These are going to give you loads of extra run-time per charge. We even have a few twin packs in stock which feature this model. You can shop them here.

#3 – Loads of Speed, Loads of Impact

Despite its ultra-compact footprint, the DCF887 manages to push out plenty of power from the brushless motor, all controlled at your fingertips via the variable speed trigger, thanks to DeWalt’s excellent XR Switch.

So you’ll be getting 2,800rpm to drive screws and up to 3,200 impacts per minute for tougher applications. In total it features 3 motor speeds and torque settings including PrecisionDrive for more control and protection!

#4 – LED Halo Ring

Working in confined spaces usually means you’re in the dark. But thanks to the bright LED halo ring round the 1/4″ hex drive, you’ll have plenty of light to see exactly what you’re doing.

#5 – Aluminium Front Housing

Obviously, if you’re pushing a massive screw into a piece of tough timber, you’re going to be generating loads of heat at the drive end of the tool. And heat can be harmful to your power tools.

So DeWalt has engineered the front housing of the DCF887 out of aluminium for improved heat dispersion. And this helps prolong the motor life, even when you’re performing heavy duty applications.

We’d love to hear what you think about DeWalt's improved and updated ultra-compact impact driver. Shop the Dewalt DCF887 here.
