First off, recip saws.
Two new models are expected soon:
Makita’s had a lot of success – ie. you guys have been buying loads of them – with their 10.8v range of recip saws. The ergonomics are fantastic, so it’s great to see them release 2 new recip saws based on this form factor.
Both models are body only (or naked, click here to learn more about what to expect) – DJR185 and DJR183 – will run off the 3Ah and 4Ah batteries. Charge times are brilliant 22 minutes for the 3Ah and 36 minutes for the 4Ah packs.
What can these reciprocating saws do? Both have a stroke length of 13mm and will cut through wood and MS pipe up to 50mm thick.
You’ll notice in the image above that the saws have two switches, both of which allow you to control the variable speed of the motor. There’s a trigger on the handle and a paddle switch on the body. This makes the saw easy to use and control in a variety of grip positions giving you a wonderful amount of versatility.
In terms of differences, while both saws look identical, there are a couple of key things you need to know. The DJR185 is compatible with jigsaw blades and requires a hex wrench to change these blades, while the DJR183 benefits from tool-less blade clamp.
Another new tool is the Makita DA331D cordless angle drill, click here for the full spec and our best price.
What features are packed into this new drill?
The motor will spin the bit at 800rpm, controlled via the large paddle-type variable speed switch trigger. The chuck holding the bit is a single sleeve keyless type underneath which you’ll find an LED job light with pre-glow function.
The motor is powerful enough to allow you to drill a maximum into steel and wood of 10mm and 12mm respectively.
This is a great new tool from Makita, specifically designed for anyone who needs versatility and flexibility to drill in tight or confined spaces. And the job light will certainly help light up those dark corners where you’re working.
Makita DPB181 Cordless Band Saw is the next new tool to add to your wish list – click for the full spec and our best price.
This new band saw is again powered by Makita’s classic 18v li-ion battery packs, whether you’re using the 3Ah or the newer 4Ah juice boxes. It’s also avaiable as a naked version, the DPB181Z.
As you can see, Makita has loaded the DPB181 with their fabled ergonomics, including an elastomer anti-slip surface on the easy-to-grip handle. The stopper plate is adjustable via the two screws to conveniently allow you to cut pipes near the wall, floor or ceiling.
And your work area will be brightly lit up thanks to the fitted LED job light, again with after glow, which is a real benefit. And the blade is quickly and easily changed, and the tension is adjusted via the fitted lever.
